I Am the Little Boy

I am the little boy who
was not hungry
and ate pudding

and discovered his stomach,
that it was empty,
and, licking the last

of a cinnamon shadow,
that he had more than one
stomach, so ate

two big deep wide bowls
of rich pudding, but,
naturally,

needing a third
and fourth, his hunger grew,
emptying porcelain pots

till he could not tell
whether he wanted
or had.
