Say You Love Me

Say you love, but don’t forget:
carcasses make noises too.

The other day I died,
signing with my palms three thousand years
of pen- and knife-carved will. To my beloved heir:
this very life.
But please
know I hold precisely
nothing against you,
though I would prove against you in the end if I chose not
to challenge you to use the couple heartbeats that you have.

You see? I lit the world on fire to make it clear:
I came to you to make a way

for you to come to me.
Prove yourself alive,
my darling; come.
